The Diamond Museum takes you on a journey. A journey that started 3 billion years ago beneath the Earth's surface. You will learn all about a carbon atom. In addition, you can see the world's smallest cut diamond.
You begin your visit to the Diamond Museum with a guided tour of the Diamond Factory. Here, a master cutter will show you how a rough stone is transformed into a dazzling jewel.
You will then learn about Amsterdam’s 400-year-old diamond history at the Diamond Museum, featuring unique objects such as replicas of the Koh-i-Noor, the Cullinan and the Hope, a Murano glass katana set with 1,967 diamonds, and replicas of the crown jewels of England, France and Russia. You will do this at the only diamond museum in the Netherlands. The exhibition takes you back in time and shows how diamonds are formed and processed. You will discover how humanity’s passion for diamonds originated, how it has developed, and what role power and wealth play in this.
Specialists will show you how to transform a rough stone into a sparkling jewel. You can also do several things yourself. For instance, you can learn to distinguish a real diamond from a fake one. The museum has several world-famous and rare diamonds from all over the world. They also teach you how to determine the value of diamonds using 4 factors: carat, colour, clarity and grinding.
The Diamond Museum houses a permanent collection. This is a unique collection with famous pieces such as the Katana sword made of Murano glass with 1967 diamonds and 494 rubies, the smallest diamond ever cut and the Diamond Ape Skull. This skull consists of 17,000 brilliant diamonds.
Besides being able to see many different diamonds and objects at the Diamond Museum, there are also a number of activities you can do. For instance, you can reenact a diamond heist. You take a seat in a dark room filled with smoke with all kinds of red lasers. On the other side, you see a large diamond that you get to try and grab. If you hit a laser beam, an alarm goes off. Do you dare to take up the challenge?
