One of the most famous nightclubs in Amsterdam is housed in an old church building. The building was inhabited by hippies in the sixties before being transformed into a successful youth centre – so successful, in fact, that it served as an example for other youth centres in the surrounding cities. In the first few months after opening, Paradiso attracted big names such as Pink Floyd and Captain Beefheart, which sparked the nickname ‘pop temple’.
