De Doelen has a long and eventful history. The original building was destroyed in World War II during the 1940 bombing of Rotterdam. The current concert hall was opened in 1966. This concert hall, designed by architects Van den Broek & Bakema, grew into one of the most important concert halls in the Netherlands. The building is now a national monument and is praised for its exceptional architecture and phenomenal acoustics.
