During the festival, visitors can enjoy around twenty to thirty artworks at photogenic locations throughout the centre of Amsterdam. From façade projections to interactive sculptures, from historic buildings to the reflective canals: light art is literally given the space to express itself here. The theme for the 14th edition is Legacy, a reflection on what we leave behind, how we want to be remembered and how cities develop.
There are several ways to experience the festival. You can walk or cycle along a route of approximately 6.5 kilometres, which takes you past installations and special corners of the city. Or experience the lights from the water. A boat trip along the canals offers a beautiful perspective on the light artworks and their reflection in the water. In addition, you can use the festival app to follow audio tours, go on treasure hunts or take part in a “Foodwalk” along various locations.
The Amsterdam Light Festival is more than an exhibition; it is an experience that connects the city and art. You see Amsterdam in a new way: the canals as mirrors of light, the historic buildings as canvases for art, and winter city life as a stage for experience. For visitors, it is an invitation to discover the city differently, for residents to experience pride and depth, and for artists to touch audiences and spaces with their work.
So whether you come for the quiet magic of a light art installation, a romantic boat trip or a winter walk full of visual surprises, the Amsterdam Light Festival offers a unique experience of urban art and entertainment in one dazzling route.
