Built between 1898 and 1903, the Beurs was named after its architect, the visionary Hendrik Petrus Berlage. He designed the building as a backlash against the lavish neo-styles of the 19th century. His style was sleek, functional and innovative - and is considered the beginning of modern Dutch architecture. Originally, it was supposed to be a trade fair for coffee, grain, shipping space and securities. But the Beurs van Berlage grew into much more than a place of buying and selling. It became a place of meeting, of debate, of culture and art.
You can discover the building's rich history on a guided tour or visit one of the temporary exhibitions organised throughout the year. From photography to contemporary art, there is always something to see. The Great Hall and other impressive spaces provide a stage for concerts, theatre performances, symposiums and galas. The excellent acoustics and monumental appearance make every meeting here special.
Looking to unwind? You can enjoy a cup of coffee, a sumptuous lunch or a glass of wine at the Beurs van Berlage Café and Brasserie. All while overlooking Beursplein.
The Beurs van Berlage is not just another building - it is a place where history was made. This is where the first Dutch socialist congress took place in 1903. Revolutionaries, artists, thinkers and dreamers spoke here. And to this day, it is a place that brings people together. Whether for an international conference, an avant-garde art exhibition or an intimate concert.
Whether you like architecture, history, art or a unique venue for an event, the Beurs van Berlage offers it all. It is a place where Amsterdam comes alive, where the past is palpable and the future takes shape. Are you visiting this special building and want to be assured of a parking space?
