The museum once started with a collection of equipment from 1938, but lost almost everything during the 1940 bombing - only the banner was saved. Thanks to reopening in 1965 and moving to Wijnhaven in 1995, the museum is now a dynamic place where personal stories and Marine history come together.
The exhibition ‘Marine 010, home base Rotterdam’ explores the deep bond between city and corps: from their formation on Admiralty ships to the heroic defence of the Maas bridges in May 1940, where they earned the nickname ‘Black Devils’. Diaries, film clips and personal stories make it impressively tangible.
Children and families can go through the ‘Marines on Mission’ experience: from building a BV-206 all-terrain vehicle to obstacle courses and mission simulations in the new ‘Cabin’ area. This shows teamwork, courage and perseverance in a playful way.
Marine Museum Rotterdam is a place where heroic and urban stories meet - educational, immersive and truly Rotterdam. Walk in, discover the world of marines and feel the connection between city and corps.
