Around Dam Square, you will find all kinds of cafés, restaurants and bars. You will also find the Royal Palace, better known as Paleis op de Dam, on the dam, this is the reception palace in Amsterdam of the royal family. The Palace on Dam is also used for exhibitions, and was once built as the city hall for Amsterdam. For this, tickets can be bought in advance online, or at the door when the museum is open. Keep in mind to check in advance whether the Palace is open for visits on the day you want to visit. Diagonally next to the Palace on Dam Square is the Nieuwe Kerk. The Nieuwe Kerk is known for its exhibitions of art, photography and inspiring people and cultures.
